CHAPTER 71: CHAPTER 71: DANGER

Silas began, but midway through his sentence, he paused before shaking his head, "I don’t know much either, I just know you are in danger."

If he told Ivy how she might harm him, too, she would distance herself.

An even worse possibility flashed in his mind. What if Ivy knew this and hence was maintaining the distance?

She hasn’t openly laid it out, so she could only discreetly try to avoid him, but once she did open up, won’t she have a legitimate reason to avoid him?

Ivy subconsciously heaved a sigh of relief. For some reason, the sight of Silas avoiding her like a plague after knowing her jinx filled her with fear.

’Hypocrite. You are avoiding him because of the jinx, but can’t bear to see him avoiding you. If you truly love him, tell him about the jinx and leave him. Maybe then he won’t come near you.’

Ivy’s feet and hands turned cold, but the voice in her mind was telling the truth. She lifted her head and looked at Silas as if she had made some kind of decision.

"I..."

Silas interrupted her with a soft smile, "You must be hungry, right? Wait here."

With that, he left without giving her the chance to speak. From his hasty retreat, one might even think that a hellhound was chasing him.

Ivy could only sigh. She watched as Silas cooked the food.

15 minutes later, the pressure cooker on the stove heated up excessively, and Ivy, who was lingering near the kitchen door, rushed toward Silas.

With a wave of her hand, she entered the space along with Silas.

Just when they entered the pressure cooker on the stove blasted and the shards of metal flew in different directions. Some of them even pierced the walls.

If Silas were still standing inside the kitchen, he might have died from the impact.

After coming out, Silas and Ivy stared at the kitchen’s condition and fell silent. The disastrous event shook them to their core.

Ivy gulped and suddenly announced, "I am leaving..."

"No." Silas strongly opposed and said with utter seriousness, "If you try to leave, I will jump off this building right away."

Ivy was stupefied. "Silas!"

Silas was now 99% sure Ivy knew the truth about her condition and hence maintained this distance.

His heartache at the thought of how much she was enduring all along. Just how lonely and sad must she have felt?

Without a word, he hugged Ivy and muttered, "I don’t know why... I can’t live without you anymore, Ivy. Please don’t leave me."

Please don’t leave me and suffer in silence.

Please stay with me even if it means we have to die alone.

Ivy’s eyes moistened before she pulled away and walked into the guest room.

Silas watched her with a complex emotion in his eyes and was about to chase her when his phone rang.

Taking a deep breath, he pressed on green button and asked in his warm, deep voice, "What is it?"

"Captain, a problem has happened, and the General wants to meet you."

"Tell Dad I am busy," Silas ordered. In the past few days, he went on various missions to eliminate the zombies in the vicinity and other suburban areas.

By common logic, he should be given a holiday by now, or at least a day off, considering he hasn’t taken one for the last few years.

But since his father is a General under whom he has been working, he was forced to work like a camel day and night.

Previously, he never complained, and even took the most dangerous missions one after another, but now?

Now his sweetheart’s life was in danger. He hardly has the time to care about the world. With that thought, he was about to hang up when Henry shouted.

"Captain, a new disease is breaking out, and it is quite serious. 9 out of 10 soldiers who were infected with it died."

Silas’s expression turned grim, "Though I sympathize with all of them, I am not a pharmacist, nor am I a doctor. I won’t be much help."

Henry: (o_0)? Why is the captain in a bad mood? Shouldn’t he be in a good mood since Ivy is with him?

Taking a deep breath, he softened his tone and continued,

"Captain, General is asking every soldier to be at the military camp so that he can test and find if any one of us has been infected. If you don’t get tested, Ivy may get infected and..."

He left his word hanging and Silas froze, before replying with gritted teeth, "Fine, I am coming."

Hanging up the call, he closed his eyes. He knew that there were 90% that the general was calling him because he heard about Ivy’s arrival.

His father hated him being close to Ivy... to be precise, he loved to put Silas in a situation where Silas either had to choose the military or Ivy.

And whenever Silas chose Ivy...

Silas hurriedly cooked a simple dish for Ivy and placed it in the refrigerator.

With no other choice, he walked up to the guest door and knocked on the door.

"I am going to the military ground. If you want anything, just call me."

"Okay." Ivy’s response sounded, and only then did Silas leave.

Ivy leaned on the door and slid down.

’To keep Silas... safe, you need to be away from him.’ She thought. The urge to make a base of her own intensified.

As long as she makes a base of her own, she can protect Silas, her own family, and her friends.

But there were many problems... like water sources, waste management, defense system, etc. The main problem was the buildings.

In the future Earth Elemental superpower could build a building within 2 months. But for now...

Thinking about the upcoming disaster and dangers humanity was going to face, her face turned cold.

’Should I recruit some earth elementalist?’ Ivy thought, and suddenly she thought about the bathroom made by temporal storage, and her eyes brightened.

"Storage, I want to place the bathroom out."
